Goydos remains in sight of lead at Torrey Pines - Long Beach Press-Telegram
SAN DIEGO - It's been six years since Paul Goydos last played Torrey Pines. The last time around, the former Long Beach State golfer turned in a pretty unremarkable 44th-place finish.
This time, he's moved up 40 spots.
After 54 holes, Goydos is tied for fourth with Luke Donald at 6-under-par 210 (72-66-72), six shots off John Rollins' 12-under lead.
Why the change of heart after six years?
"I think Buick needs our help right now," Goydos joked.
Goydos managed to stay near the top on a day when torrential downpours caused some high scores. Starting off strong, he cruised through the front nine on the South Course, making the turn at 35. Goydos eagled the par-5 sixth hole, chipping in from 54 yards with a 3-wood.
"They had the pin over the bridge and I didn't want anything to fly on top so I had to just skip it in," Goydos said. "As soon as I hit it I knew I hit it solid, so that was good. First bounce, I thought that should be good. Second bounce hit in an even better
